APP is my second new high-conviction stock-pick writeup because AppLovin gives MentorSurge exposure to a different kind of AI trade. Not chips. Not data centers. Not rockets. This is AI applied to advertising conversion, mobile demand, and eventually e-commerce performance marketing.

The stock is not clean. It is volatile, expensive, and controversial. That is why the trade has to be framed with discipline. But the financial profile is too strong to ignore. When a software-like ad platform can grow revenue fast while printing huge adjusted EBITDA margins, I want it on the watchlist even if the chart punches hard.

The live market check before writing this showed APP at $525.205 at 10:43 AM ET on July 6, 2026, down 0.35% on the day, with a day range of $513.40 to $530.96 and a 52-week range of $325.58 to $745.61. That is not a sleepy setup. It is a volatile leader trying to rebuild after a reset.

Why I like APP even though it is not green today

A stock does not need to be green every morning to be a good pick. APP is slightly red in the live check, but the bigger setup is that software and adtech leadership has been trying to recover while some chip names digest huge runs. IBD recently noted AppLovin pushing above key moving averages in a cup base after Raymond James initiated coverage with a strong buy rating and a $640 target.

That is the exact kind of setup I like for a blog pick: strong fundamentals, recent technical recovery, clear upside debate, and enough volatility that the risk line actually matters.

The core thesis: AppLovin is an AI monetization machine

AppLovin's value is not that it runs ads. Lots of companies run ads. The value is the matching engine: finding the right user, for the right app or product, at the right bid, with enough data and automation to make advertisers keep spending.

That is why the e-commerce expansion matters. If AppLovin can take what worked in mobile gaming and apply it to broader direct-response commerce, the market opportunity gets much bigger. The stock's best bull case is not just mobile app ads. It is AI-powered performance advertising outside the old gaming box.

The Q1 numbers were hard to dismiss

The Q1 2026 numbers are why I cannot ignore APP. Barron's reported AppLovin posted first-quarter revenue of about $1.84 billion, up 59% year over year, with adjusted EBITDA of about $1.56 billion, up 66%. The adjusted EBITDA margin was around 85%. That is an absurdly strong margin profile for a company still growing this fast.

Guidance also mattered. The company guided Q2 revenue to roughly $1.92 billion to $1.95 billion and adjusted EBITDA to roughly $1.62 billion to $1.65 billion. It also repurchased about $1 billion of stock during Q1. Those numbers do not promise anything, but they show a business with serious cash-generation power.

That is the reason I like the stock after the reset. The market has already punished it for controversy and valuation. If the business keeps executing, APP can rerate again.

The bear case is real

I do not want this post to read like fan fiction. AppLovin has real risks. The stock has dealt with short-seller attacks, questions around data practices, and reports of regulatory scrutiny. Even if the company keeps disputing or moving through those issues, the market can still apply a risk discount.

The second risk is valuation. A company with elite margins can still be a bad buy if investors pay too much. APP has already shown it can swing violently. The stock's average true range has been high enough that sloppy sizing can wreck a trader even if the long-term thesis is right.

The third risk is competition. If Meta, Google, TikTok alternatives, retail media networks, or new AI-native ad systems squeeze AppLovin's edge, the growth story changes. In adtech, performance is king. If advertisers stop seeing results, the multiple compresses fast.

The trade plan I would use

Because APP is slightly red in the live July 6 check, I would not force a buy just to feel early. My plan would be to use the current dip as a controlled-entry setup.

A starter makes sense only if it holds the $513-$520 support zone and starts reclaiming $531 with volume. If $500 breaks and does not recover quickly, I would step aside. First target is $570-$590. Stretch target is $640, which lines up with the recent Raymond James target cited by IBD, but only if the market stays friendly to software and APP keeps holding key moving averages.

  1. Starter zone: $513-$525 only if buyers defend the range.
  2. Confirmation: reclaim $531 with volume.
  3. Risk line: reduce or exit if $500 breaks cleanly.
  4. First target: $570-$590.
  5. Stretch target: $640 if momentum and market breadth cooperate.

What would make me wrong

The first thing that would make me wrong is a breakdown below $500 with no fast reclaim. With a volatile stock like APP, price has to confirm the thesis.

The second is a change in advertiser demand. If growth slows or margins compress faster than expected, the market will not care how good the old numbers looked.

The third is legal or regulatory pressure that moves from background noise to business-model risk. APP is a powerful platform, but powerful platforms attract scrutiny.

Bottom line

APP is not the safest stock in the market. That is not why I am writing it up. I like it because it combines elite revenue growth, massive adjusted EBITDA margins, a real AI-driven ad engine, and a technical setup that could work if software leadership keeps recovering.

The right way to own it is not to worship the ticker. The right way is to define the setup, define the stop, keep the size sane, and let the company prove whether the e-commerce advertising expansion is real. High upside, high risk, clean plan.

Checklist mode

My APP due diligence checklist

Before treating this as a high-conviction idea, I want the thesis tied to evidence, price action, and a clear invalidation line.

EvidenceRevenue, product momentum, market sponsorship, and customer behavior. RiskValuation, volatility, regulatory pressure, and a failed breakout. DecisionAdd only when the business case and chart both improve.

The goal is not certainty. The goal is knowing what would make the setup stronger, weaker, or dead before the candle moves.
